NOTICE: DISCHARGING SUMP PUMPS WITHIN CITY OF COLTON
With the coming spring thaw of winter snow pack, the City of Colton Sewer Department reminds residents to discharge sump pumps out to the yard or curb to avoid overtaxing the sewer system that has operated at near, or exceeding, maximum capacity due to the practice of discharging directly into the system from within the house. To exceed maximum capacity can not only cause extensive damage to the sewer system, but could result in fines to the City of up to $10,000 per incident exceeding capacity. The seriousness of this issue leaves the City no alternative but to implement house inspections and levy fines to residents suspected and later found to be continuing the practice of discharging directly into the system from within the home, therefore placing the community at risk. Strict compliance is critical. Call Colton City Hall at (605) 446-3811 with questions.
