The City of Colton Sewer Department is requesting that sump pumps no longer be discharged into the Sanitary Sewer System (through the floor, laundry or toilet drains) to prevent overtaxing the system and incurring additional costs. Please pump all discharge out of the house to the yard or curb. Continuing to discharge into the sanitary sewer system could lead to city inspections and subsequent fines. Last year, the City of Colton monitored your drinking water for possible contaminants. The following attachement is a snapshot of the quality of the water we provided last year. Included are details about where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to EPA and State standards. SDDOT Awards Economic Development Grants
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that the South Dakota Transportation Commission has awarded $2 million in grants for road improvements in smaller communities in South Dakota.
The community access, industrial park, and agri-business grant program funds were awarded to improve roads leading to schools, main business areas, hospitals, grain elevators, and other economic areas in the communities.
Those receiving the grant awards include:
- Brown County - $250,000 for Brown County Highway 19, leading to Molded Fiberglass Companies
- Brown County - $250,000 for Brown County Road 14W, leading to Northern Beef Packers
- Colton - $96,000 for 5th Street, leading to the grain elevator
- Corsica - $250,000 for Railway Avenue, leading to the grain elevator
- Groton – $250,000 for First Street and Fourth Avenue, leading to the school
- Scotland - $250,000 for Washington Street, leading to the POET facility
- Veblen - $178,545 for Main Street and Prairie Street (main business area)
- Worthing - $250,000 for Second, Juniper, and Third Streets, leading to the school
