WHY EIC INITIATIVE
The motivations are simple... some control against the constant threat and reality of rising energy costs. Doing our part to reduce dependence on foreign energy sources. Being a good steward of the environment in which we live. The security provided from renewable fed battery back-up systems during extended power outages. No matter the motivation, we all agree that capturing the energy that exists in abundance all
around us in South Dakota - from the sun and wind - just makes good sense.
WHAT IS THE EIC INITIATIVE
Powered by a Recovery Act grant provided by the State of South Dakota Energy Department, Colton's Energy Independent Community EIC Initiative is a city led project to improve both the energy efficiency of city facilities and then produce the electricity needed for operations through the use of small wind and solar technology.
Battery back-up systems on all facilities, powered by renewables, also means that city operations will continue at full capacity in the event of extended power outages. The EIC Task Force represents the community arm of the EIC Initiative hoping to build upon the City of Colton's lead with further development of renewable systems within the Colton business and residential communities.
